Astrology Traps: Fortune Telling

Spiritual non-dualism holds that, once one embraces their fuller Consciousness as "it," that is, as everything, as all, then the end of seeking is reached, naturally.

There is, after all, nothing to desire when you realize that you are everything, and what's more, timeless.

This recognition of utter completion brings a palpable, permeating realization that time is but a construct of the mind; just another passing thought in the endless mental parade. Oh, sure, it's a very useful thought, but that's all it is.

From the non-dual understanding, eternity, which happens in the constant, seething, undulating Now, is perceived as time when viewed through the filter of the mind.

If, for the fun of it, you'd like to explore a bit of how (mostly) Materialists have been wrestling with the whole time argument, check out this article.

So, if time is merely a concept, and all possibilities are happening at once, what then is the point of using astrology to "look into the future" at all? And why do so many people (perhaps you, as you read this are one of them) approach astrologers with the typical "big questions:"

- When will I get married?

- Will I get the job?

- When will I die?

- Hey, how about the Powerball?

One of the many reasons I "use astrology" can be intimated through one of my favorite Alan Watts quotes:

"You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself. Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence."

Alan Watts

Notice Alan's use of the present tense; looking, not "will look." Perceiving, not "will perceive." Listening, not "will listen."

Astrology is a wonderful tool for understanding the field in which you see, the environment in which you experience, the space in which you hear.

By understanding the various current contexts of your life, you're a little freer to watch for the details and the harmonies that Watts described to unfold.

Summary

  • Real astrologers don't distract you from your Now by pinning down the Not Yet for you. (They can't, anyway.)

  • Instead of thinking of "the future," think of how Now is developing

  • Remember, there is no "other," You are all there is. Therefore, that which is developing is You, in flux.
