Getting the Most Out of a Horoscope

Sam Lowe

Do all Horoscopes belong in the “Funny Papers”?

If you’ve ever wondered if a one-paragraph blurb could actually be relevant to such a huge chunk of the population, I’ll show you in this video and article.

The spiritual weather forecast of planet Earth

In the video below, I show you what horoscope writers are using in order to put together a very brief synopsis for an entire sun sign for a specific period of time. Actually, it’s most likely a rising sign rather than a sun sign.

The short version is — the planets in our solar system are surrounding us in one particular configuration. There are two big “lenses,” however, that must be factored in to make those planets readable.

The first lens is your rising sign: What zodiacal sign was on the horizon at the moment of your birth? That's the primary setting to understand before you can look at the current astronomical situation in a way that makes their positioning and energy relevant to you.

The second big lens regards a slice of time. In other words, if a horoscope is for, say, the month of November 2018, an astrologer needs to know exactly where all the planets are on the 1st of the month, and the path they are traveling through to the last day of the month.

OK, I lied. There’s another thing needed to produce horoscopes: a solid understanding of the most important aspects or angles that the planets are making to each other, and how to interpret those aspects for each rising sign. Why? Because “Jupiter square Mars” is going to happen in different houses for a Sagittarius than they will for a Pisces.

If this sounds too general to be accurate, well…

As I explain in the video, there are a myriad of other factors that go into making astrological interpretation accurate and relevant.

A horoscope may show how the planets surrounding Earth apply a series of influences, but…which influences are being interpreted? What is the astrologers spiritual and philosophical point of view? And how does that astrologer perceive that those energies will affect the most general character traits of each sign?

Additionally, understand that when YOUR chart is interpreted against the current astronomical weather, everything comes into far, far clearer focus. General trends start to become specific influences that can be tied to your own personal idiosyncrasies.

Now — we have something we can work with.  And that’s exactly what I do.

I don’t do monthlies. But I have recos for you

In the video, I sing the praises of three particularly keen astrologers that I personally follow to get a good chorus on the monthly astronomical “weather:”

I heartily encourage you to determine what your own Rising Sign (or “Ascendant”) is, and then see what each of these three have to say to you by way of their monthly forecasts. You’ll see that they each go way, way beyond what you may be used to in terms of the usual pop horoscope.

Once you understand where each of your own houses lie, their deeper insights my cause you to want to understand how the daily astronomical transits relate to your own life and chart. You may even want to look out into the future towards upcoming events, and see what the future planetary alignments have in store for you. This is where consultative astrology comes in to help you build your studies, build your business or career, have an influence on your relationships or your sports life, or literally any other aspect of your life.

When you get to that point, contact me for a reading. You'll be surprised and encouraged by what we can discover, together.

Summary

  • A horoscope in a magazine is an INCREDIBLY distilled interpretation of a wildly complicated slice of time

  • Horoscopes are also interpretations of how the planets in the sky surrounding Earth relate primarily to each other. Your natal chart, of course, is never brought to bear.

  • If you really want to give an astrologer a fighting chance of being relevant, read both their interpretation for your Sun sign as well as your Rising sign. Read that astrologer’s point of view over several readings to start to get a feel for which is more “on trend” for you.

  • If you really want to get the most out of monthly horoscopes, watch the video for my recommendations for 3 of the most accurate and philosophically relevant astrologers that I currently follow
